Why Should You Pay Attention to Your HVAC System’s Air Filter?

If you didn’t know, and air filter is a vital, yet often overlooked component of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system. In fact, it should be checked every month, and it is also suggested that property owners change them once a month, especially during the winter and summer months. But, why should you even bother checking and/or changing your HVAC system’s air filter in the first place? Well, consider these three reasons below:

1. You Will Extend the Life of Your System.

A dirty air filter can cause a heating and air conditioning system to malfunction. Not only will a dirty air filter prevent the air from getting through, but it could cause the system to overheat because of the sheer fact that it forces the motor to work harder. And, if the motor breaks down, you will either have to make expensive repairs or replace your unit years before it was meant to be replaced.

2. Energy Costs Will Remain Normal.

Because a clogged and dirty air filter forces your system to work harder, this means that more energy is also being used. So, because more energy is being used, your bills will be much higher than usual. Therefore, if you want to keep your energy bills around what you normally pay, we highly suggest that you consistently monitor the condition of your system’s air filter.

3. Your Home’s Air Quality Will Not Deteriorate.

If you live with friends and/or family members who suffer from asthma or allergies, you should already know how important it is that they breathe clean air. Inevitably, the dirtier an air filter gets, the less it will be able to prevent the spread of allergens and other pollutants throughout your home. And, not only will a dirty air filter make things worse for those who suffer from asthma or allergies, but it also means that you will be breathing in filthy air.

Changing your HVAC system’s air filter is a simple job that takes about five minutes to complete. However, if you feel like you are not up to the task, there are certainly plenty of heating technicians who would be more than happy to do it for you.
