1. Dress in layers.

Keep them close to your bathroom or under your bed for easy access and then use them as layers when you’re inside. You can even use a heated water bottle in bed, and use extra blankets, as well. There are tons of cloth heat bags you can buy that you can pop in the microwave for an instant burst of warmth. Wool lined slippers or moccasins are also great for keeping body warmth.

2. Winterize your home.

If you haven’t done it already, then get some insulating materials and set aside a few hours to winterize your home. Keeping the heat inside your home is easier when you have storm windows, but if you don’t have them, it’s still possible to stay insulated. You can create temporary storm windows with just a few sheets of plastic and some tape. In fact, there are several winter winterizing kits on the market, but you can use materials that are on hand, as well. 3. Use a draft snake.

You’ve probably seen a draft snake at one time or another. Draft snakes are found at many hardware stores or through online shops. You can also save some money and simply use a bath towel. Just roll it lengthwise and place it along the bottom of the door. You can even make your own with a long tube of cloth like a necktie. Close one end and then fill it with beans or sand.  Draft snakes are fun to make, and you can prevent cold air from creeping in at all locations that need it.
